Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny quiet town. It is a bit of a mystery as the West Island can be confusing for those who aren't familiar of its purpose. It is often believed that it's an island to the that lies west of Montreal, but the West Island encompasses everything between the cities of Lachine and West. The West Island is frequently referred to as being the place of birth for Amanda Brugel but while that is the case, her time there was short. Brugel was raised in Courtice near Oshawa the city of Ontario. When she was a child, she wanted to be a performer but an unexpected expansion of her body made it impossible. The article she wrote about her experience revealed written by the Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall and wears heels. When I surpassed the size of my male companion then I slowed down. Many ex-dancers switch to acting. In Brugel's case it was because of the advice of her drama teacher at high school that led her in the direction she required. It was the teacher who recommended she go after a role in the annual school production. She auditioned and was eventually cast as the lead for the role in Anne of Green Gables. She was awarded an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to go to York University's Theatre Program, where she graduated in 2000 with a degree of Bachelor's in Fine Arts. Over the past 20 years that followed, Brugel has landed roles in more than 60 productions on the big and small screens drawing the most interest when she was offered the character in the role of Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel is the sole Canadian of the season 1 actors of the series and only seen occasionally was the sole Canadian.
